Needle felting Needle Felting Tutorial - Surface Design Using Yarn and Roving

What is needle felting? Unlike wet felting, that uses water and agitation to make the wool fibers fuse together, needle felting uses a sharp needle that has a set of tiny barbs or nicks along its edges. While pushing the needle through, these barbs catch the fibers, interlocking them with each pass.

If you knit, this is a great way to use up those scraps left over from finishing. Caution: You will find this gratifyingly fast and it will turn you into an fiber opportunist, picking up every colored scrap of yarn, roving, or lock you find on the ground.
